LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

As per provision of the IBA (Amendment) Act of 2010 Part IV, Section 20 (1), all applications for the provision of broadcasting services (both Radio and Television) must be solicited for by the Authority.

RADIO

Broad Licence Categories
i. Commercial Broadcasting Licence
ii. Community/Religious Broadcasting (Non Commercial) Licence

Class Licence Categories
i. Public Radio Broadcasting (Commercial)
ii. Public Radio Broadcasting (Non-Commercial)
iii. Commercial Radio Broadcasting
iv. Non-Commercial Radio Broadcasting (Community/Religious)
v. Landing Rights Broadcasting Service

Service Charges
i. Application fee – K3,000 applicable to all categories except Landing rights
ii. Landing Rights – US $1000

Commercial Broadcasting Licence Requirements
Submit with the official IBA Application Form:
i. Business plan- detailing a sustainability trajectory indicates the short, medium and long term plans on how the station will be financially sustained.
ii. A Certificate of Registration i.e. PACRA
iii. PACRA printout for shareholding
iv. A list of the applicant’s Board members with their respective curriculum vitae attached.
v. The Programming schedule for the station
vi. Proof of payment of application fee

Note: Application fee is non-refundable.

Non-Commercial(Community/Religious) Broadcasting Licence Requirements
Submit with the official IBA Application Form:
i. Business plan- detailing a sustainability trajectory indicating the short, medium and long term plans on how the stations will be financially sustained.
ii. A Certificate of Registration i.e. Registrar of Societies
iii. A list of the applicant’s Board members with their respective Curriculum Vitae attached. Note: only a maximum of two board members may be related
iv. The Programming schedule for the station
v. Proof of payment of application fee (K3,000)

TELEVISION

Broad Licence Categories
i. Public Content Service Provider
ii. Private Commercial Content Service Provider
iii. Private Non-commercial Content Service Provider
