IBA Proactive in Enforcing Election Coverage Guidelines

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General, Webster Malido, has reaffirmed the Authority’s proactive approach in implementing the Election Coverage Guidelines as Zambia enters the electoral period ahead of this year’s general elections.

Speaking on ZNBC Radio 4’s The Platform programme, Mr Malido stressed that the Authority’s priority is to ensure broadcasters uphold ethical and professional standards in election coverage.

“We are being more proactive and helpful as a regulator by reminding broadcasters of the legal expectations that must guide their work,” he said.

He emphasised that the guidelines serve as a reminder for broadcasters to remain professional, impartial, and responsible, while safeguarding democratic principles during the electoral process.

Mr Malido further revealed that the Authority’s intensified stakeholder engagement to sensitise broadcasters and other key players on the importance of compliance.

The guidelines, recently launched by the IBA, form part of broader efforts to promote responsible broadcasting, strengthen professionalism within the media sector, and ensure fair and balanced coverage throughout the electoral period.
